Massive personal data leak from the Energy Regulatory Office

Board member of the Energy Regulatory Office Krejcar disposed with personal data of the employees of the office without authorization. The Office for personal data protection is aware of the situation, yet since october it took no action. The situation is occuring 4 months before the new general data protection rules come into effect. According the those rules the Energy Regulatory Office might face a EUR 20 million fine.

Last year in august the board member Krejcar with no authorization obtained access to all personal data of the former and recent employees of the Energy Regulatory Officer by claiming disposition of all personal files of these persons. He also allowed other unauthorized persones to get access to these files. It meant a massive unauthorized disposition with personal data.

The Security Magazine found out that in october of the last year the Officer for personal data protection received the first complaint about the break of the law. Yet this office did no investigation so far and it did not correct the actions of the board member Krejcar. According to the information of the Secturity Magazine the chairman of the office Ivana Janů knows about the situation. Meanwhile the complaints about the break of the law multiply – the Officer for personal data protection obtained several ones already. Since the end of may the new general data protection rules come into effect, and for similar break of the law they bring perceivable sanctions reaching even EUR 20 million.

The minister of industry and commerce Tomáš Hüner should be concerned with the situation, and it is in his competence to propose the discharge of the board member who breached his duties in a grossly negligent way. There were controversies about the installation of the board member Krejcar already. He was setting up generous purchase prices for the renewable sources of energy and was consequently discharged from the Energy Regulatory Office, because of his unexcused absence during the audit of the setup of prices for the renewable sources of energy.
