VOP CZ (Vojenský opravárenský podnik) is a state owned company which focuses on engineering, repairs and development, modernization and production of both the military and the civil equipment. On 30th January the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the VOP concerning the new Czech Army’s Infantry Fighting Vehicle acquisition.

The company is located Šenov and in Bludovice near Nový Jičín, and has more than 800 employees. Within the sector of defence and security it covers both the vheeled and tracked vehicles, engineer equipment, NBC protection (decontamination systems), and protection of people and critical infrastructure.

VOP CZ is a company with a long tradition of military and engineering production since 1946, focusing, as VOP-025, initially on reparing the military equipment, and later the possibilities of the company extended to military production, and during the 1990’s civil engineering production has been introduced. The company was enlarged by merging with a similar enterprise (VOP-26, the company continued its existance under its designation) and incorporating several military research institutes (Vyškov, Slavičín, Brno). In 2012, the company changed its name to VOP CZ, s.p.

Today VOP CZ is the largest defence industry company in the Czech Republic.

It is a marketing partner for a wide range of NIMR armoured vehicles in the region, especially for the V4 countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary). It provides services concerning repairs of the wheeled armoured vehicles of the Czech Army, namely the wheeled IFV Pandur II 8x8 CZ and the BRDM-2 APC.

The company also provides repairs and modernizations of the T-54, T-55 and T-72 Main Battle Tanks. And by the end of 2017 a general agreement on repairs and maintenance of the T-72M4 CZ tanks has been signed by the negotiants of the state enterprise VOP CZ and of the Ministry of defence of the Czech republic.

Within the frame of engineer equipment, VOP CZ provides service, technical maintenance and routine repairs for the Army’s bridge layers,be it the MT-55A armoured vehicle-launched bridge (based on the T-55 chassis), or the AM-50 and AM-70 vehicle-launched bridges (on Tatra wheeled chassis).

The company also has a long tradition in providing repairs for the tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicles of the Czech Army, the BVP-1 (BMP-1) and the BVP-2 (BMP-2), and other tracked vehicles such as air-defence missile launchers (namely the KUB system). Which was the reason why VOP CZ got an important role in the tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle acquisition project: VOP CZ has signed a cooperation agreement with all four potential suppliers of the IFVs (BAE Systems, GDELS, PSM, Rheinmetall) and would provide authorized service, and eventually licensed production of the vehicles in the Czech Republic.

Among other products there is the notable TAROS V2, which is a 6×6 wheeled, unmanned, all-terrain, modular and automated robotic ground vehicle, designed to provide combat and logistic support in high-risk areas and complex environments.

Besides modern military equipment the experience of the company allows for other projects as well. In February 2018 VOP CZ completed the reconstuction of the SU-100, soviet WW2-era self-propelled anti-tank gun (this particular vehicle was of a post-war Czechoslovak production). In the past the company had repaired other historical vehicles currently exposed in the Military Technical Museum in Lešany, such as the pre-WW2 Czechoslovak tanks LT-35 and LT-38, the soviet IS-2 heavy tank or the U.S. M36 Tank Destroyer.
