The Military Technical Institute will deliver seven new LOV-Pz artillery reconnaissance vehicles

The Military Technical Institute (VTÚ) will complete the equipment of artillery reconnaissance units of the Army of the Czech Republic with additional reconnaissance LOV-Pz vehicle sets within twenty-seven months from December 2019 at the latest. The contract was signed by the Deputy Minister of Defence for the Armaments and Acquisitions Division of the Ministry of Defence Filip Říha and the director of the state enterprise VTÚ Jiří Protiva.

Reconnaissance LOV-Pz vehicle is part of the system of artillery and all-purpose reconnaissance and is used as a forward observation post. Its deployment is intended primarily on exposed positions of the battlefield, where it provides protection from enemy fire. It can also be used to guard important areas and buildings, both civilian and military. Its reconnaissance subsystems and their mutual configuration make it possible to create a far-reaching reconnaissance equipment for detection and identification of targets.

“We started the development of the light armored LOV-Pz reconnaissance vehicle in 2014 and so far we have supplied the Czech Army with six pieces. The subject of this contract is the supply of seven other reconnaissance sets, including crew training. The implementation of the contract, which is a proof of successful development starting with the delivery of sophisticated technology, will be the responsibility of the VTÚVM Slavičín branch plant, ” the director of the Military Technical Institute J. Protiva said.

The light artillery reconnaissance armoured vehicles LOV-Pz, developed by VTÚ in 2013-2015, is based on IVECO M65E19WM LMV widely used by the Czech Army in many variants, and it serves with the the 13th Artillery Regiment of the Czech Army (armed with the 86 ShKH M77 DANA Self-Propelled Gun Howitzers, 152 mm). The LOV-Pz vehicle is equiped with the Remote Weapon Station ZSRD Pz mounted with the FN MAG machine gun. The vehicle is designed for surveillance and target acquisition missions to support artillery and mortar fire, and carries multiple day, night and thermovision cameras, the LDM 38 laser rangefinder and a powerful radio Harris RF-300M-TV FALCON III.
