The Czech Army has taken over the first 65 Toyota Hilux off-road vehicles, which are to gradually replace the obsolete UAZ and Land Rover cars.

The Czech Army already has the first 65 Toyota Hilux off-road vehicles, which will gradually replace the obsolete UAZ and Land Rover cars. The first cars will be handed over at the beginning of this week to the 43rd Airborne Regiment in Chrudim. The cars will be used primarily to transport soldiers and supplies.

The Army has long been troubled by the obsolescence of the UAZ and Land Rover vehicles, which are still part of its equipment. These „veteran cars“ will be replaced by the new Toyota Hilux off-road vehicles in the years 2021-2024.

Replacement of old vehicles was also one of the priorities of the current Minister of Defense Lubomír Metnar and Chief of General Staff Aleš Opata. The contract with Glomex MS was signed in November last year and the Ministry of Defense will be able to purchase up to 1,200 vehicles under the contract.

At the beginning of April, the Ministry of Defense informed on its Twitter account that the Toyota Hilux cars had successfully passed the control tests, and military tests would follow. The tests were also successful and were a condition for the cars to be handed over to the Army. The cars were subjected to comprehensive testing, which included, for example, tests of the load capacity of the cars, driving characteristics and engine reliability.
